Weekend events set to bring hoiday cheer

If last week's parades didn't get you in the Christmas spirit, there are plenty of activities this weekend that should melt the heart of the coldest of Scrooges.
The Old Waynesborough Commission presents "Christmas in the Village" on Saturday. Also on Saturday, Faison will have its annual Christmas parade. And on Sunday, Eureka's parade will march through town.
Festivities will begin at 1 p.m. at Waynesborough Village and last until dark. The event is free and will be held rain or shine.
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, dressed in clothing of the 1800s, will give tours of some of the historic buildings, including the Wiggins House, Doctor's Office and Faircloth Law Office. The buildings will be decorated in 19th century holiday style with handmade ornaments and fresh greenery.
Also available for touring will be the hay barn, tobacco barn, salt house and blacksmith shop. Charles "Andy" Anderson will perform a blacksmith demonstration. Facie Weeks will take children around in his old-fashioned car.
The Waterbound Dulcimers will play from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. inside the visitor's center. Santa will arrive at 4 p.m. and read "The Night Before Christmas." Then everyone is invited to participate in a lantern lighting ceremony at the end of the event.
Cookies and punch will be served inside the visitor's center, and the general store will be open for shopping.
A new exhibit at the village is called Christmas Around the World. Members of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's International Women's Club donated the holiday items representing Germany, Scotland, Bermuda and Mexico. The exhibit will run through Jan. 8 in the visitor's center main lobby.
The village is at 801 U.S. 117 South. It is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 731-1653.
Eureka
The Eureka Christmas Parade will be Sunday, with lineup at 2:30 p.m.
The parade begins at 3 p.m. in front of the Eureka United Methodist Church at 128 N. Church St.
People can register to enter the parade through Saturday. The entry fee is a donation of a canned food item, which will be given to needy families in the community. For more information, call 242-5064.
Faison
The Faison Christmas Parade will be at 3 p.m. Saturday.
It will have more than 50 entries and all kinds of horses, says organizer Bill Creech. He said the Faison Improvement Group, which is sponsoring the parade this year, is hoping for good weather.
Faison's fire chief and former sheriff, Glenn Jernigan, will be the grand marshal during the parade, which will begin at the Southern Produce shed and go up Main Street to the railroad tracks and turn right at Center Street. The parade route will continue down Center Street and end at Solomon Street.
