Severe weather
Central North Carolina, including Wayne County, is under a slight risk for severe weather late this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, there is a potential for strong thunderstorms as well as tornadoes as a cold front approaches.
Winds are expected to range from 20 to 35 mph and could be as high as 35 to 50 mph. Isolated gusts of up to 65 mph are also possible. Winds of this speed could topple trees and power lines and produce minor structural damage, forecasters warn.
The threat in Wayne will be highest between 6 p.m. and midnight. Adverse weather conditions could begin as early as 3 p.m. in the western Piedmont.
Morning paper
On Thanksgiving Day, the News-Argus will be a morning newspaper instead of being delivered in the evening as usual.
The paper is altering its publication schedule so that its employees can enjoy the holiday off with their families.
The Circulation Department will be staffed until 10 a.m., however, in case there are any calls about delivery service.
Food collection
To help the Salvation Army restock its shelves after losing much of its food supplies to thieves, Chevrolet-Cadillac of Goldsboro is acting as a drop-off point for bags of non-perishable food.
The drive will continue through Dec. 18.
The dealership is on the U.S. 70 Bypass.
For each bag of food dropped off, a Texas Steak House gift certificate will be given away.
