State transportation department travel update

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the N.C. Department of Transportation says it is working to ensure that motorists are safe during their travels through the state.
Most work zones on interstate and U.S. routes will be inactive during the Thanksgiving holiday from Tuesday through Monday.
Interstate 40 in Haywood County is reduced to one lane in each direction near the North Carolina-Tennessee state line (mile marker 1 to mile marker 4) due to a slide caused by Hurricane Ivan.
Motorists can expect 10- to 15-mile back-ups if traveling on Wednesday and Sunday. The N.C. DOT will provide Incident Management Assistance Patrols to monitor traffic conditions and assist disabled motorists in the area.
Motorists are advised to use the following alternate routes to avoid delays during peak travel times:
*I-40 West -- I-240 in Asheville to I-26 West to I-81 South back to I-40 in Tennessee.
*I-40 East -- I-81 North to I-26 East to I-240 back to I-40 in Asheville.
Interstates
*I-77 South in Mecklenburg County is reduced to two lanes at Cindy Lane.
*I-77 North in Mecklenburg County is reduced to two lanes at N.C. 16.
N.C. Routes
*N.C. 50 in Pender County may have a lane closed from N.C. 53 to the Onslow County line.
*N.C. 50 in Onslow County may have a lane closed from Holly Ridge to N.C. 210.
