The 10th Annual Benefit Tasting of Wines and silent auction will be held Saturday to help Habitat for Humanity build a house.
The wine tasting is sponsored by Healthabit Natural Foods and Wines and Billie's Restaurant. This year's event will be in Herman Park Center on Ash Street.
It will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $35, and they're $40 at the door. They're available at Billie's Restaurant on Center Street and at Healthabit Natural Foods on Spence Avenue.
The benefit held two years ago raised more than $12,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County, and Habitat Director Beth Parrish is excited about the one planned for Saturday.
She said Habitat expects the proceeds from the wine tasting will enable the organization to build an additional house in Wayne County next year. Habitat built four houses in 2004 and plans to build five more in 2005.
The goal for the wine tasting is to raise more than $15,000. All of the money from the ticket sales and auction bids will go directly to the charity, said Robert and Sue Crenshaw, owners of the Healthabit.
The event is catered with appetizers, cheeses and desserts designed to complement a wide variety of wines and champagnes. Five wine distributors will present more than 90 wines from Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Chile and the United States.
The Crenshaws said more than 190 people attended the event last year, raising more than $12,000 for the Community Soup Kitchen.
"We would like to thank you for your support and would love to include any wines you would like to feature in our benefit this November," they said.
New this year with every ticket is a commemorative wine glass celebrating the 10th anniversary of the benefit.
The silent auction will include more than 40 items donated by the distributors, like large bottles from Renwood, Hogue, Krug, Banfi and Cain. Also included in the silent auction will be vertical sets of harder-to-find cabernets and older wines.
There will be bottles signed by the winemakers, a six-bottle set of champagne, rare and hard-to-find pinot noirs from Oregon, and the latest framed poster and artist series reserve cabernet from Kenwood Vineyards.
