Driver hits car
with bat
A driver rammed two parked cars on Vanderbilt Circle, resulting in an estimated $12,000 in damages on Sunday and later was charged by Goldsboro police with numerous offenses.
Melvin Joseph Plummer, 28, of East Oak Street was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving and two counts each of injury to personal property and assault with a deadly weapon. He refused a breath-analysis test, the report said. His secured bond was set at $1,000.
Plummer rammed one car several times, then got out and struck it several times with a baseball bat, police said. The car was occupied by the driver, Victor Lamore Thompson, 39, of North Faison Avenue, Faison, and a woman.
The impact of the collision also pushed Thompson's car into a second, unoccupied car, registered to Rodney Devon Parker of Koonce Street.
In other collisions:
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 at 11:20 p.m. Saturday at North Berkeley Boulevard and Graves Drive, police said. Kelly Adrienne Pelt, 21, of U.S. 117 North, Fremont, and her passenger, Casey Jones, 22, of Parks Drive, Pikeville, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. An oncoming, southbound driver, Angie Jean Semrau, 22, of East Ash Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Ms. Pelt was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired.
*Two passengers were injured at noon Saturday at East Ash Street and Spence Avenue, police said. Latoria Perry, 15, and Sheri Barney, 14, both of Sheridan Road, were released after emergency-room treatment. They were riding with Donna L. Casper-Ward, 39, of Sheridan Road. Jason M. Hyland, 17, of Northview Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $2,300.
*Damages were estimated at $9,400 in a three-vehicle collision at 1:43 p.m. Saturday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Langston Drive, police said.Edward Thomas Carter, 18, of Clinton, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other drivers were identified as Charles Jonathan Averitt, 19, of Clinton and Joshua Lee Fishman, 17, of Robin Lake Drive, Dudley.
*Damages were put at $7,500 at 12:36 p.m. Friday on West Grantham Street (U.S. 70) near Hargrove Street, police said. Susan C. Penman, 41, of Princeton Road, Princeton, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver was listed as Linwood Carlton Player, 46, of Brentwood Drive.
*A motorist was injured and the car that he was driving was demolished at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday on New Hope Road near North Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Brandon Scott Reid, 16, of Bear Creek Road was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $4,000.
*A driver from Dudley was injured and damages were estimated at $14,500 at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday at Emmaus Church Road and Pineview Cemetery roads, the Highway Patrol said. Gerald Clifton Hughes, 65, of Waldrop Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. Otto Ramirez Diaz, 30, of Rouse Farm Lane, Seven Springs, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
Teens charged
A neighbor saw three teens break into a car and steal entertainment equipment Saturday in the 800 block of Sunny South Street, a Goldsboro police report said.
The property, owned by Jorge Rodriquez and valued at more than $1,370, included a color television, stereo equipment, video-game equipment and compact discs. The neighbor called police, and the suspects were found nearby.
Michael Rashonté Barnes, 16, of Evergreen Avenue was charged with two felonies, breaking and entering and larceny, and two misdemeanors, possession of stolen property and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond. The other teens were not identified because of their age. The property was returned to the owner.
Larceny charge
A 28-year-old man was arrested Sunday night by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony offenses. Michael Shane Smith of Echo Drive, LaGrange, was charged with larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
Church break-in
An estimated $2,800 worth of musical equipment was stolen Sunday from Thunder Swamp Holy Church at 1519 Thunder Swamp Road, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said. The equipment included two guitars, three amplifiers, a compact disc player and an instrument control board. The thief smashed a window, inflicting about $100 in damages, to get inside, the report said.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A purse with $20 and personal papers and a stereo face plate were stolen Sunday after a vehicle window was smashed in the Outback restaurant parking lot at 2617 North Park Drive. The property was valued at $355. The vehicle is owned by Thomas H. Hackatorn of Goldsboro.
*A black leather bag filled with items was stolen Sunday after a vehicle window was shattered in Wilber's Restaurant parking lot at 4172 U.S. 70 East. The property was valued at more than $50. Damage was put at $300 to the vehicle, owned by David Earl Hale of New Bern.
Drug charges
Two people have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Betty Jean Phillips, 45, of West Oak Street was charged by Goldsboro police with possession of cocaine. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
*Pedro Pablo Ramirez Tiscareno, 27, of South Slocumb Street, was charged by Wayne County sheriff's deputies with possession of cocaine, driving while impaired and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Missing
A 15-year-old boy has been reported missing by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Phillip Dontae Best of 112 Devonshire Drive was described as black, 6-feet and 170 pounds with short black hair and light brown eyes.
When he was seen last at about 1 p.m. Friday, he was wearing a black T-shirt, blue-jean shorts and tennis shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
