Store robbed
A clerk at a service station was robbed before dawn today of an undetermined amount of money, a Goldsboro police report said.
The clerk told police that a man entered the Save More store at 1903 E. Ash St. at 3:48 a.m. today and demanded, "Open the register," several times. The robber then grabbed the clerk, opened the cash drawer, snatched the money and fled west, police said.
The robber was described as being black, 6-feet and 150 pounds, and he wore a blue jacket and dark pants.
Officers arrest several on drug charges
A man was arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with seven felony drug trafficking offenses and eight other felony drug violations.
When Gregory Uzzell, 40, of Hinnant Road, Pikeville, was arrested at Worrell's Trailer Park in the 1300 block of North Berkeley Boulevard, officers also seized cocaine with an estimated street value of $42,000, the report said. Uzzell was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2 million secured bond.
In addition to the trafficking offenses, Uzzell was charged with three counts each of possession with intent to sell cocaine and sale of cocaine and two counts of maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of selling cocaine.
Two other men also were arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at Hood Swamp Road and Vinson Drive and charged with felony drug offenses. Deputies said they seized 1.7 ounces of marijuana and .04 ounces of cocaine.
Hakeem Rasheed Blackman, 21, of Fred Harrison Road, Snow Hill, was charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana and possession of cocaine. He was jailed in lieu of a $7,000 secured bond.
Darris Donrece Kirkman, 23, of N.C. 903 South, LaGrange, was charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana. His secured bond was set at $5,000.
A woman also was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police in the 300 block of North James Street and charged with a felony drug violation.
Angela Raynor, 33, of West Grantham Street was charged with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was jailed in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Charge dropped against officer
A charge against a Mount Olive police officer for writing a bad check has been dropped. John David Duncan III was charged after he had changed bank accounts. He thought all the checks had cleared on the closed account, but one had not. The information on the charge came from the Goldsboro Police Department. The officer was not taken into custody as was stated in Public Record on Tuesday.
Missing
A 12-year-old girl was reported missing Thursday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Uneaka Shakeema Best of 1246 Antioch Road, Pikeville, was described as black, 5-feet and 110 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion.
When she was seen last at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, she was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a navy blue jacket. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
Driver injured
A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $17,500 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured in a three-car collision at 5:20 p.m. Thursday on East Ash Street near North Leslie Street, Goldsboro police said. Lindy J. Winstead, 42, of Lucama was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other motorists, Michelle Lea Pennington, 23, of Bett Drive and Jodi H. Polumbo, 23, of East April Lane, were charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $7,500.
*A car was demolished at 6 p.m. Monday on U.S. 117 near Arrington Bridge Road (N.C. 581), the Highway Patrol said. The southbound driver, Malcolm Lee Southerland, 27, of East Walnut Street, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was pulling a trailer loaded with a vehicle. The driver lost control of the car, the report said, and it ran off the left side into a tree. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Two end tables and a cocktail table were stolen between Tuesday and Thursday from a mobile home at Castle Manufactured Homes at 6033 U.S. 70 East, LaGrange. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The tables were valued at $415. Damage was set at $250.
*A thief slashed a convertible top and damaged the dash between Sunday and Thursday in order to steal a radio and compact disc player combination from a car in the 800 block of Mills Road. The owner and resident, Talmage Gary Grady, put a $150 value on the stolen property and set damage at $850.
*A computer system was stolen last weekend from a home in the 1400 block of Nor-Am Road. The resident, Robert Eddie Langley, said his property was worth $2,400.
