Halfway mark
United Way of Wayne County is almost at half of its fund-raising goal of $1,332,000, reports Donnie Barnes, campaign chairman.
A total of $659,530 has been raised, which United Way officials say will improve the lives of 13,190 people in Wayne County.
"We have a lot to do in the next four weeks, with more than $672,470 needed to attain our goal of improving more than 26,656 lives next year," said Barnes.
The following employee campaigns were recognized: county of Wayne, $31,120; APV Heat Transfer, $2,781; Mount Olive College, $3,438; and APV Turlington, $6,360.
A campaign report luncheon will be held Jan. 12.
Correction
Robin Grady, an employee with the News-Argus, was the eighth finalist in the Fair Share Challenge, not the fifth. Eleven people will be picked to have a chance at winning a new truck.
