Traffic accidents

Ten people were injured and damages were estimated at $49,700 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.

*A passenger was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at North William and Orange streets, Goldsboro police said. Curtis Lewis, 44, of Arrington Bridge Road was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He was riding with Arlethia J. Dixon, 53, of Arrington Bridge Road. The other driver, Stefanie Louise Atkinson, 31, of Raleigh, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the rear-end wreck. Damages were put at $4,000.

*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 at 6 p.m. Monday at Jefferson Avenue and East Mulberry Street, police said. Antionette Williams, 45, of South Madison Avenue, and a passenger, Ethelene Artis, 65, of Bartlett Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Williams also was charged with a yield violation. The other driver was identified as Mary R. Applewhite, 62, of South Best Street.

*A driver was injured at 7:45 a.m. Monday at South George and East Elm streets, police said. Christy G. Straughan, 34, of Striding Ridge Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. Bennie Lee Ford, 62, of Pecan Road, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed.

*Two people were injured and both vehicles were demolished at 2:42 p.m. Saturday at Nahunta and Fields roads, the Highway Patrol said. Judy W. Crawford, 58, of Hinnant Road, Pikeville, and a passenger in the other vehicle, Annie McPhail, 64, of Grifton, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. McPhail's driver, Carl Londell McPhail, 66, of Grifton, was charged with driving left of center.

*A driver from Dudley was injured and both vehicles were demolished at 1:19 p.m. Saturday on Durham Lake Road near South Landfill Road, the Highway Patrol said. Elroy Player, 53, of Cobb Coley Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. Player was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired. James Alfred Shelley, 32, of Sleepy Creek Drive, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation.

*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $7,300 at 2:34 p.m. Friday at U.S. 117 and Smith Chapel Road, the Highway Patrol said. James Oates, 79, of Flowers Road, Mount Olive, and Sayda Suyapa Swinson, 46, of Clinton were released after emergency-room treatment. Oates was charged with a yield violation.

*A driver was injured at 2:50 a.m. Thursday on Rosewood Road near Friendly Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Anthony Wayne Singleton, 34, of Old Smithfield Road, Princeton, was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with driving while impaired and driving while his license was revoked after the car ran off the left side and struck a telephone box and a driveway culvert.

Break-ins

A 25-year-old Dudley man has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with two felony counts each of breaking and entering and larceny. Richard Lee Williams of Durham Lake Road was accused of breaking into two homes on Durham Lake Road and stealing property, Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden said. His bond was $7,000.

Investigations

Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:

*A compact disc player, an amplifier, two speakers, a pair of tennis shoes and a blue and gold graduation tassel were stolen Tuesday from an unlocked car at Goldsboro High School, Goldsboro police said. The thief also damaged the car's trunk and dashboard in order to steal the property, the report said. The property, valued at $487, was owned by the driver, Christopher Howell of Fremont. Damage was estimated at $1,200 to the car, owned by James Howell of Fremont.

*A stereo receiver, four speakers, a computer, a CD player, a phone and a dual cassette player have been stolen from a home in the 100 block of Mill Creek Court, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Dennis Ray Cox, put a $1,328 value on the stolen property.

*A blue, two-door 1997 Hyundai was stolen from Rollingwood Drive near Dudley, deputies said. The car, owned by Kisha Morrison of Dudley, was valued at $1,500.

Missing

A 16-year-old boy was reported missing Tuesday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Christopher William Hicks of 216 Waldrop Road, Dudley, was described as white, 6-feet and 135 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.

When Hicks was seen last at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, he was wearing a black and tan jacket and black jeans. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1482.
