When employees at Larry's Gym found a mattress and a sofa dumped behind the business last weekend, they didn't take it lying down.
Before cleaning up the mess, the owner found a pay stub and a bank statement in the midst of the dumped trash.
Mallie Honeycutt, an employee at Larry's Gym, said they are diligent about keeping the back of their building clean.
"We keep it clean. Saturday everything was fine," Honeycutt said. "But Sunday, Larry went out there and found the stuff dumped behind the building.
The business called the city's general services department Monday about having the couch picked up, and were told to put it out near the road. A cardboard sign was also attached to the sofa, explaining that it was illegally dumped behind the building.
It's scheduled to be picked up today.
Joseph Sawyer, director of general services, said that Larry's would be fined $5 for the pickup, even though the trash didn't belong to the company.
"It was found on their property," he explained.
Honeycutt said they would pay the pickup service, but that they also intend to file a complaint with the city's code enforcement office.
That office, managed by Tasha Logan, has the authority to issue citations to the person who dumped the trash.
