A 16-year-old Southern Wayne High School student has been charged in the Oct. 15 shooting of a 24-year-old Dudley man.
James Marqui Bowden, Daffodil Drive, Dudley, was charged at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon by Wayne County Sheriff's deputies. The sophomore was charged with murder and held without bond.
Billy Joe Gregory was found at his residence on Hazelwood Drive, the victim of a single gunshot wound to his chest. He died shortly after he arrived at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Officers said the shooting was drug-related but gave no further information.
Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders applauded the work of Det. Sgt. Rick Farfour, lead investigator in the case, and his detective division for solving the crime.
"These officers have spent a lot of hours on the street with this case," he said. "A lot of family's lives have been tragically changed by this crime."
