James King Jr.

Pvt. James H. King Jr. recently completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

The 13 weeks of training included classroom instruction and physical fitness classes.

The private is now assigned to the Wilmington North Carolina Reserve Unit and is training as a landing support specialist at Camp Geiger near Camp Lejeune.

He plans to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and attend officer training school for the next two summers. After graduation from college, he will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

He is the son of James and Sally King of Indian Springs and is a 2004 honor graduate of Spring Creek High School. He is the grandson of Lanis S. Lockamy of Goldsboro and the late Wilbert Earl Lockamy and the late Allen R. and Joyce M. King of Mount Olive.

Jeremiah Howe

Air Force Airman 1st Class Jeremiah Howe has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied Air Force related topics and participated in physical fitness classes.

In addition, the airman earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Celia Howe of Goldsboro and is a 2001 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Rashied Green

Air Force Airman Rashied S. Green has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

In addition to completing the six weeks of training, which included classroom and physical fitness training, the airman earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Renee and Laymond Bratcher of Pikeville and is a 2004 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School.

Anthony King

Air Force Airman Anthony A. King has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, performed drill and ceremony marches, and completed physical fitness training.

He also earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

The airman is the son of Geneva Melvin of Dudley and is a 2004 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

John Smith II

Air Force Airman 1st Class John L. Smith II has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied Air Force related subjects and participated in drills, marches and field training exercises.

He also earned an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Smith is the son of John and Teressa Smith of Goldsboro and is a 2002 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Stephen Brinson

Air Force Airman 1st Class Stephen R. Brinson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The six weeks of training included classroom work as well as physical fitness classes. The airman also participated in drills, marches, and field training exercises.

The classes will count as credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Brinson is the son of Tracy and Stephen Brinson of Goldsboro and is a 2002 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Darrell Jackson

Army Reserve Pfc. Derrell K. Jackson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the nine-week training, the private received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training and chemical warfare. He also participated in field training and tactical exercises.

He is the son of Sandra Jackson of Goldsboro and is a 2004 graduate of Goldsboro High School.

Vivian Redd

Vivian M. Redd has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

The training provides professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential as a leader.

She is the daughter of Dawn Branch of Mount Olive. She graduated from East Duplin High School in 1997 and received an associate degree in 2003 from Cochise College, Sierra Vista, Ariz.
