A teen-ager walking on the railroad tracks along Royall Avenue was struck by a train engine Wednesday, a Goldsboro police report said.
Xavier Raquel Coley, 16, of Central Heights Road was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for multiple injuries and released, a spokeswoman said.
Police said Coley and another teen, Swanika Brody of Carolina Street, were walking east at about 3 p.m. on the tracks between North Herman Street and North Audubon Avenue.
The Norfolk Southern train engineer, Raymond Thomas Jr., 53, of Raleigh, turned on the horn in an attempt to alert the teens, but Coley did not respond, the report said.
Thomas applied the brakes and stopped the train, but not before the left front of the engine struck Coley, the report said.
Coley was charged by Officer Chris Crawford with trespassing on railroad right-of-way.
