Eric Glenn Lane is competent to be tried for the murder of a 5-year-old girl.
Judge D. Jack Hooks of Whiteville ruled today in Wayne County Superior Court that the defense had not met its burden of proof by the weight of the evidence that Lane was incompetent.
Hooks made the ruling after a four-hour competency hearing Tuesday afternoon and arguments today from the state and defense.
