11 people injured in county collisions
Eleven people were injured and damages were estimated at $35,400 in eight recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were $8,000 at 9:19 p.m. Sunday at North Spence Avenue and an exit ramp to Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, Goldsboro police said. Brandon Lee Hill, 25, of Kermit Warren Road, Mount Olive, was charged with driving while impaired, hit and run and a stoplight violation. The other driver, Isaac Lavon Underwood, 24, of Arlington, Va., was charged with fictitious registration.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,000 at 12:13 a.m. Saturday on South Slocumb Street near Olivia Lane, police said. Derrick Wayne Crumpler, 17, of N.C. 111 North, and his passenger, Brandon Werkmeister, 18, of Walters Drive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Victorino Arcadio Gonzalez Chaj, 24, of South Slocumb Street, was charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving and hit and run after the rear-end crash.
*A driver from Middlesex was injured and damages were put at $5,500 at 10:25 a.m. Saturday at U.S. 117 and Sleepy Creek Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joshua Randall Whaley, 22, was released after emergency-room treatment. Jonathan Lloyd Outlaw, 19, of Deerfield Lane, Dudley, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
*Two drivers were injured and damages were set at $6,200 in a three-vehicle collision at 7 a.m. Friday at U.S. 70 and N.C. 111, police said. Thomas Sawyer Waters, 71, of Bunche Drive, and Marno G. Ramirez, 26, of Dunn, were released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, James Arthur Graham, 44, of Salters, S.C., was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
*Two people were injured at 11:50 a.m. Friday at East Ash Street and North Oleander Avenue, police said. Columbus Bill Artis, 67, and his passenger, Joseph Artis, 31, both of Piedmont Place, were released after emergency-room treatment. Thelma R. Heckstall, 89, of Eason Street, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. Damages were put at $1,700.
*A man who had just left a truck was injured at 8:40 a.m. Friday when the vehicle lurched backward, ran over him and rammed New Hope United Methodist Church at 200 E. New Hope Road, police said. John Nelson Adams, 50, of New Hope Road, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. Damage was put at $500 to the truck, registered to John Wooten of Kellywood Drive, and at $3,500 to the church.
*A driver was injured at 5 p.m. Friday on East Ash Street near North Kornegay Street, police said. Mary Ann Royall, 48, of North Carolina Street was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Jose Bulfrano Roblero Castro, 24, of South Slocumb Street, was charged with an improper lane change. Damages were set at $500.
*A driver was injured at 4:45 p.m. Thursday on N.C. 55 near N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Glenn Mark Pearson, 42, of New Hope Road, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. Pearson told troopers that another vehicle had forced him off the road. Damage was estimated at $2,500 to his pickup that had run off the right side twice and then overturned.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A single-axle utility trailer carrying an estimated $4,895 worth of tools was stolen Sunday from the 5000 block of Wayne Memorial Drive. The owner, Jeffrey Charles Carmichael Sr., put a $2,200 value on the trailer. The stolen tools included a generator, two walk boards, two extension ladders, a stepladder, a circular saw, a cordless drill, a hammer drill, a nailer and hand tools.
*Stereo equipment was stolen Saturday after a dashboard was damaged in an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Lane Street in Pikeville. Thomas Wayne Smith of Pikeville said his property was worth $1,720.
*About 50 DVD movies, 10 video games, a hammer drill and a saw have been stolen from a room in a home in the 300 block of Red Hill Road. The resident, Kevin Anthony Stiegler, put a $3,349 value on his property.
*A chained Greg Lemond bicycle and accessories were stolen from the bike rack on a car in the 100 block of Leon Drive. Richard Thomas Long said his property was valued at $1,500.
*A .410 caliber shotgun was stolen Saturday after a door was pried open in a home in the 100 block of Caves Cove Place. A.L. Overton also reported that her home had been ransacked but nothing else was missing. The shotgun was valued at $800.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A diamond ring, two engagement rings, 15 other rings, four bracelets, 15 compact discs, four DVDs and a video game were stolen Sunday from a home in the 1200 block of North Center Street. The resident, Leatha Miller, put a $2,298 value on the property.
*About 140 movie videos, 75 DVD movies and two video cassette recorders were stolen after a window was forced open at a home in the 300 block of West Holly Street. The resident, J.B. Parks, said the property was worth $2,275.
*A white, four-door 2003 Mitsubishi Galant was stolen from the 200 block of N.C. 111 South. The owner, Marangeli Ferrer of Dudley, said the car was valued at $16,000.
*A case of beer and three bottles of beer were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a door was damaged at the Spur Service Center at 101 W. Grantham St., police said. The beer was valued at $17, and damage was set at $310.
*A red 1987 Nissan Frontier pickup was stolen from the 400 block of West Oak Street. The owner, Isiach Daniel of Garner, said he had left the key inside. The truck was valued at $1,000.
*A bag, a music compact disc and clothes were stolen Friday after a vehicle window was smashed in the 2600 block of North Park Drive. The owner, Gene L. Hooks of East Carolina Street, Fremont, estimated the property's value at $70.
*A television, a CD player and a DVD player were stolen Friday after a window was broken at a home in the 100 block of Hines Drive. The resident, Vera Green, put a $448 value on the property.
*A thief smashed a car window, inflicting an estimated $200 in damages, in order to steal a state registration card worth $5. The car owner, Ivory K. Coley of Goldsboro, said the break-in occurred in the 100 block of Vanderbilt Circle.
