Man robs same store twice, say police
A 33-year-old man was charged Wednesday by Goldsboro police with the theft of money almost two years ago from a cash register at a gas station after an anonymous call to Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers.
Mark Albin Simpson of Holland Hill Drive was accused of stealing the money Sept. 30, 2002, from the Spur station at 2000 N. William St., Investigator Dale Foster said. As the clerk rang up Simpson's purchases, he grabbed the cash and fled. Simpson's secured bond was set at $25,000.
Simpson had been charged with the June 30 armed robbery of the same gas station. He had been placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
Drug charges
Four people were arrested Wednesday by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Alajahwon Isiah Silvers, 16, of North Berkeley Boulevard was charged by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad with possession with intent to sell cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. His bond was $5,000 secured.
*Antoine Lamar Silvers, 19, of North Berkeley Boulevard was charged by the drug squad with possession with intent to sell cocaine. His bond was $4,000 secured.
*Anthony Devon Evans, 26, of North William Street was charged by the drug squad with possession of cocaine and possession of a stolen firearm. His bond was $10,000 secured.
*Thurston Allen Bell Jr., 30, of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, was charged by Goldsboro police with possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. His bond was $10,000 secured.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Two televisions and a portable stereo were stolen Wednesday after a window was smashed at a home in the 100 block of Banks Avenue, Goldsboro police said. The property, valued at $4,500, is owned by the resident, Michael Lavelle Wheeler.
*A tool box, tools and an air gun were stolen from a home in the 100 block of Oakland Church Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Corey Nicholas Larivee, said his property was worth $3,100.
*A dryer, a washer and three weed trimmers were stolen from a rental storage locker at 2276 N.C. 55 East, Mount Olive, deputies said. The thief had cut a padlock to enter the locker. The renter, Keith Carter of Mount Olive, put a $620 value on his property.
*About $25 in change was stolen Wednesday after a door to a home in the 300 block of Sanderson Road was kicked in, deputies said. Damage was set at $400 at the Donald R. Grady home.
Three hurt in wreck
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 70 and Brentwood Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Christine B. Wells, 75, and her passengers, Jonathan Spencer, 10, and Kayla Spencer, 6, all of Edray Drive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Wells was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other motorist was Jeffrey Earl Fisher, 34, of Kinston.
*Damages were set at $7,500 in a three-vehicle crash at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at U.S. 70 and N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. Cynthia Lee Collins, 38, of New Bern, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other drivers were identified as Gale W. White, 52, of Raleigh and Christine Harris, 42, of New Bern.
Car fire
A car was damaged Wednesday in a fire called suspicious by fire and police authorities, according to reports.
The 1997 Honda was set on fire at Tanglewood Mobile Home Park at 3201 Central Heights Road. The car is owned by Eric Williams of Thunder Swamp Road, Mount Olive. He had left it at the home of his sister who reported the blaze.
Goldsboro firefighters answered the 5 a.m. alarm and referred a further investigation of the fire to police.
