MOUNT OLIVE -- The town is waiting to hear from the owner of a third tract of land that may be used for a regional sewer system.
The town has bought two of three tracts of farmland that have a total of about 324 acres. They will be used for the sewer system's drip and spray fields.
The town needs about 100 acres to spray the treated water to crops, and all three tracts are about 108 acres. The town will also create a drip system for a tree farm. These methods are designed to filter nitrogen from the treated waste to prevent it from going into the river.
The town has had the third tract appraised, and the owners are reviewing the documents.
The next step will be to test the soil to help the engineers know if more land will be needed.
