Arrested at graduation
A woman was arrested Friday night during commencement exercises at Spring Creek High School and charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Connie L. Waddell, 38, of Beaver Drive, Dudley, was accused of using abusive language, cursing Deputy Eric Robinson, agitating others to commit violent acts and refusing to leave the area. She also was accused of trying to flee from the deputy as he took her to his patrol car.
Ms. Waddell was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.

Man wounded
A 39-year-old man was wounded Friday in his home on Jenny Lane in Dudley, according to a report filed in the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The victim, Lonnie Lee Garner, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed Saturday night in stable condition, a spokesman said. Garner and another witness told deputies that the gunshots had come from outside the home.
The suspect was described as black, about 20 years old, 5-feet-11 and 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Sentenced for rape
Thurman McArthur Judge Jr., 26, of Jacksonville and Wallace pleaded guilty in Onslow County Superior Court to rape, kidnapping and burglary.
Superior Court Judge Ken Crow of Craven County sentenced him to 46 to 60 years in prison.
Judge was charged with first-degree rape, four counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of first-degree burglary, one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Judge pleaded guilty to all charges after the close of all the evidence in a jury trial that began May 17 and immediately prior to jury arguments, said District Attorney Dewey Hudson.
The co-defendant, Karon McKenzie, pleaded guilty in Duplin County on Nov. 19 last year and received a sentence of 21 years.
The case was transferred from Duplin County in March this year after a Duplin County jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
The crime occurred Sept. 5, 2002, on West Charity Road in Rose Hill. Victims identified the defendant, and DNA evidence supported the testimony, Hudson said.
Three hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $27,300 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:33 a.m. Thursday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Lockhaven Drive, Goldsboro police said. Tequila C. Anderson, 43, of Mitchell Road, Dudley, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. She also was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said Ms. Anderson had left a parking lot and her sport utility vehicle collided with a northbound car driven by Richard Allen Ballard, 23, of N.C. 111 South, Seven Springs. Damages were set at $3,800.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 8:03 a.m. Thursday in the Best Sand and Gravel Co. parking lot on Ralph Sasser Drive, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said. The drivers -- Helen P. Lane, 59, of U.S. 70 West and Jerry L. Sutton, 46, of Church Road, LaGrange -- were not charged. Deputies said Ms. Rose backed a W.P. Rose Supply Co. vehicle into a Best Sand and Gravel Co. truck.
*Both drivers were injured and their cars were demolished in a wreck at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday at Old Mount Olive Road and Holloman Lane, the Highway Patrol said. Jeannie Marie Johnston, 18, of Holloman Lane, Dudley, and Josie S. Daughtry, 20, of Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Johnston was charged with a safe-movement violation, driving while her license was revoked and a seat-belt violation. Troopers said Ms. Johnston was starting a left turn and the car that she was driving collided with a northbound auto that Ms. Daughtry was driving. The cars were valued at $7,000.
*Damages were estimated at $11,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 8:29 a.m. May 18 at N.C. 581 and Rosewood Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Linsay Carroll Thompson, 20, of East Walnut Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Troopers said she had started a left turn and the car that she was driving collided with a northbound sport utility vehicle operated by Angela P. Garcia, 43, of Laura Lane.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A set of Ping golf clubs and a .32 caliber pistol were stolen between Thursday and Friday from a car in the 100 block of Meadowlark Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Willie Ray Faircloth, said the golf club were worth $3,500 and the pistol was worth $650.
*A stereo was stolen between Wednesday and Friday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Parkwood Drive, deputies said. The stereo was valued at $350, and damage at the C.A. Strickland home was set at $100.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Five cars were jacked up between Thursday and Friday at Ash Street Automotive and nine tires were stolen, police said. Five tires, valued at $375, were stolen from four cars, owned by the repair shop. The other four tires, valued at $300, were taken from a car owned by Michael Smith of Goldsboro.
*About $835 worth of jewelry was stolen between Monday and Friday from a home in the 100 block of Brock Street, police said. The resident, R.Y. Hill, reported the theft of a diamond cocktail ring, a 20-inch gold herringbone necklace, another ring, a pair of earrings and a gold charm.
*Goldsboro Jewelry and Pawn at 710 E. Ash St. and Boulevard Pawn at 2419 E. Ash St. reported Friday that a woman pawned a ring and received a total of $1,650, police said. The diamond in the ring turned out to be fake. The woman was described as being Hispanic, about 30 years old, 5-feet-6 and 150 pounds with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.
*A gray, four-door 2003 Mitsubishi Galant was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from the 900 block of North Carolina Street, police said. The resident and owner, Alberta L. Hayes, said the car was worth $21,000.
Missing
A 23-year-old man was reported missing Friday to Goldsboro police. Sammy Ray Braswell Jr. of 1219 Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, was described as black, 5-feet-7 and 160 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.
When Braswell was seen last at 9 a.m. Friday, he was wearing a plaid shirt, dark green pants and light brown boots. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 736-4933.
