Fire destroys Belfast house

A house was destroyed by fire today at Belfast.
The cause of the fire at 106 Belfast Ave., which started at 11 a.m., was unknown.
Belfast and Patetown volunteer firefighters extinguished the blaze and kept it from spreading to nearby houses. Smoke was still showing at 11:20.

There was no nearby hydrant for the firefighters to use. They had to shuttle water from Belfast Academy alternative school to fight the blaze.
Two senior airmen were living in the house and escaped without injury. They had lived in the house since November and had been stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base since 2002. The were identified as Senior Airmen Robert McKinzie and Jeffrey Taylor. The house is owned by Robert Batts.
