Offices closed

The city will observe the Memorial Day holiday Monday.

All sanitation collection services scheduled for Monday will be collected Wednesday, June 2.

Wayne County government offices will also be closed on Monday.

Wrong time for flag helpers

A Briefly on Tuesday gave the wrong time for people to gather at the American Legion post to distribute flags on graves of veterans.

The correct time for people to be at the Post Home on U.S. 117 South is Saturday at 9 a.m. For more information, call George Carberry at 778-9636.

Center Street Jam

The Center Street Jams in downtown Goldsboro will continue Thursday with more beach music.

The Breeze Band will begin performing at 5:30 p.m. at the Waynesborough House parking lot on South Center Street. They will play until 8 p.m.

Besides bringing your dancing feet, also bring your appetite. There will be food from a number of different downtown restaurants, as well as barbecue from the downtown Elk's Lodge.

There will also be an opportunity to win a year's worth of free doughnuts by participating in a doughnut-eating contest.

Sen. Dole at base

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole was scheduled to arrive today at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base as part of her tour around the state's military installations.

Mrs. Dole is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

During her visit, she is scheduled to have breakfast with enlisted airmen and their spouses, fly with the 334th Fighter Squadron in an F-15E Strike Eagle and receive briefings about current and future base construction projects and other on-going programs.

She will also attend a dinner at the officers' club, which will be hosted by Brig. Gen. Rick Rosborg, 4th Fighter Wing commander, and attended by local community leaders. She is scheduled to leave Thursday morning.

Bloodmobile

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Goldsboro city maintenance complex on Clingman Street.
