Memorial Day service
Wayne County veterans are planning a Memorial Day service for Monday.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the auditorium at Wayne Community College.
The event is sponsored by the Wayne County Veterans and Patriot Coalition.
Flag helpers
Volunteers are needed to help place flags on the graves of Wayne County's war dead.
Those interested in helping should meet at the American Legion building on U.S. 117 South on Saturday at 11 a.m. A breakfast of ham biscuits will be provided. Then the volunteers will spread out to four cemeteries in the county. For more information, call George Carberry at 778-9636.
Last day of school
Summer vacation for students in Wayne County public schools begins Wednesday afternoon.
Many high schools are holding final exams today and Wednesday, and all grades plan to have early dismissal on Wednesday. Dismissal times vary and parents can contact individual schools to find out when students will be released.
Flood workers
Four volunteers with the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross left Monday to help victims of the flooding in Wilson over the weekend.
Durwood Bostic will assess damage. Jo Peterson will keep up with records and reports. Dora Perry and Bonny Bishop will help with family services.
