Sex charge
A 36-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Tuesday by Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with a first-degree burglary and a first-degree sexual offense.
William Authur Smith of Annies Avenue was arrested after an investigation of a complaint that a man had broken into a home in Dudley and assaulted a 12-year-old girl, Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said. Smith was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 secured bond on the felony charges.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured Tuesday in two traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A driver from LaGrange was injured and all three vehicles were demolished in a collision at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday at North Jefferson Avenue and Peachtree Street. Veronica B. Creswell, 42, of South Best Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Another driver, Antonio Avila Vega, 34, of Sleepy Creek Road, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said Vega's van had stopped for a stop sign, then started up and hit with Ms. Creswell's northbound car. Then, police said, the impact pushed Vega's van into a stopped pickup driven by Michael Allen Radford, 33, of Five Points Road, Dudley. Damages were estimated at $21,500.
*A bicyclist was injured in a crash with a car at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday at Elm Street and a driveway to School Street School, police said. Stevie Peterson, 28, of East Elm Street was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver, Chuki Nacole Wooten, 27, of West Hill Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation and driving while her license was revoked. Ms. Wooten had started a left turn into the parking lot and the car collided with Peterson's oncoming, westbound bicycle.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $3,125 worth of property was stolen Tuesday from a home in the 4800 block of N.C. 111 North, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Shannon M. Mooring, reported the theft of a 20-gauge shotgun, a safe, a video camera, three bracelets and four necklaces.
*A Sears riding lawn mower, a sander, a drill and a tool box with tools were stolen from the 700 block of North Georgia Avenue, Goldsboro police said. The thief had pried a lock from a shed door to get inside. The owner, Edward Royal of Goldsboro, put a $1,990 value on his property.
*A DVD player, seven DVD movies and $25 were stolen Tuesday after a window was smashed at a home in the 400 block of Charles Street, police said. The resident, E.Y. Lunnie, estimated the property's value at $243, in addition to the cash.
