On-Star works
Goldsboro police were notified Friday by an On-Star representative that a 2004 Cadillac CRX had been stolen from Massey Motors in Kinston, a report said.
Police then stopped the sport utility vehicle on Madison Avenue in Goldsboro before it had been entered in a nationwide computer bank. The driver and the passengers were taken into custody.
The driver, Avery Lee Scott Shue, 31, of Wiggins Mill Road, Kenly, was charged with larceny of a vehicle and an opened container violation. He also was picked up by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding arrest warrant. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a secured bonds of $11,000.
Two salesmen from Massey Motors picked up the SUV, valued at $40,000.
On-Star is an option in General Motors and other vehicles. If a car is stolen, the owner can notify On-Star and the engine can be turned off. If the car is disabled and the air bag engaged in a wreck, an On-Star representative can call the driver in the car and alert authorities.
Body found
The body of a 22-year-old man, who was released only hours earlier from Wayne Memorial Hospital, was found Saturday in his home, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department said.
The victim was identified as Kirk Wrenn Pelt of 212-B Pelt Road, Pikeville. He had spoken to relatives at about 2 a.m. Saturday. He was found at about 10:30 a.m. Sheriff's officers said today an autopsy was to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $24,800 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 6:40 p.m. Saturday on McLain Street near Oak Forest Road, Goldsboro police said. Jennifer Lynn Cordell, 26, of J.J. Lane, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The car ran off the left side in a curve and struck a fence, police said. Damage to the car and fence was set at $6,000.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 at 2:54 p.m. Saturday at North Berkeley Boulevard and Graves Drive, police said. William David Patton, 46, of Earl Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other motorist was identified as Samantha Jo Casteel, 18, of Bolling Drive.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 3:50 p.m. Friday on Piney Grove Church Road near Rockford Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The southbound car ran off the road and overturned. Christy Yvonne Gaul, 26, of Dog Pound Road, Seven Springs, told troopers that a truck was passing a school bus and she swerved to avoid it. Her car was valued at $5,000. Anyone who saw the wreck was asked by Mrs. Gaul to call the Highway Patrol at 731-7960 or Michael Gaul at 252-569-1351.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 at 8:06 a.m. Friday at East Ash Street and North Madison Avenue, police said. Bobby Gene Floars, 67, of Ridgewood Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Mary Susan Nichols, 33, of Cuyler Best Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash.
*A motorist from Kinston was injured at 3 p.m. Friday in the Berkeley Mall parking lot, police said. Carla Marie Paschal, 19, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, who was backing from a parking space, Bradley Winston Carmichael, 69, of Planters Place, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were put at $3,800.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A home under construction in the 400 block of Albert Drive was vandalized. The walls, floors, carpet, a range and a microwave were damaged. Damage was estimated at $5,070.
*A blue 1985 Polaris all-terrain vehicle was stolen Sunday from a garage in the 1100 block of N.C. 222 West. The resident and owner, Jimmy M. Mayo, put a $5,600 value on the ATV.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Four window air-conditioners, an electronic keyboard, a small refrigerator, a stereo system and a coffee table were stolen after a window was damaged at a home in the 400 block of Magnolia Street. The owner, David Stafford of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the property at $1,760.
*A pocketbook with personal papers was stolen Sunday after a car window was smashed in the 100 block of North Berkeley Boulevard. The owner, Jennifer B. Lupe of Cove City, put a $30 value on her property and set damage at $100.
*A yellow 2003 Dayton moped was stolen Sunday from the 800 block of Aycock Street after the lock and chain were cut. The owner and resident, S.N. Green, said the moped was worth $3,000.
*A gold, four-door 1994 Nissan Altima GXE was stolen from a repair shop in the 800 block of North Center Street. The owner, Lakeisha Moore of Goldsboro, put a $2,000 value on her car.
Missing
A 15-year-old boy was reported missing Sunday to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Mark Allen Clark of 309 Stuckey Road, Fremont, was described as white, 5-feet-6 and 125 pounds with a slim building, short brown hair and hazel eyes.
When Clark was seen last at noon Sunday, he was wearing a dark shirt, black pants and white shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
