Intruder shot
with own gun
during robbery
A man was shot with his own gun, another man was wounded in a drive-by shooting and two people were robbed Sunday, according to Goldsboro police reports.
A man who entered an apartment Sunday in the 1400 block of Courtyard Circle was shot with his own gun during an attempted robbery, police said.
The resident, Jamethon Curtis Howard, 19, told officers that the intruder put a gun to Howard's head and demanded his money. The two men struggled for the gun, and the intruder was shot, police said.
Derrick Raymont Best, 22, of Mimosa Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition.
Police Investigator Dale Foster said no charges have been filed, but he has not finished his investigation.
Another man also was wounded Saturday night in a drive-by shooting in Tanglewood Mobile Home Park off Central Heights Road, police said.
Corey Fitzgerald Brunson, 21, was treated in the emergency room for a gunshot wound to the leg and released.
The gunfire also damaged the walls, a window, a door, a cabinet, a couch, a shower and the ceiling of Mamie Brunson's mobile home. Damage was estimated at $1,050.
Early Sunday, Marco Maurice Edwards, 22, of North Audubon Avenue was sitting in his car in the driveway of a friend's home in the 700 block of North James Street. There, both were robbed by two men, police said.
Edwards was robbed of $500, and Joseph Lawrence Quinn, 21, was robbed of $53 at about 1:40 a.m., police said.
The victims said the robbers, dressed in dark clothes, ordered them to get out of their car and then tied them up, put them face-down on the ground, pointed what may have been a gun at them, took their money and fled west on Holly Street. The robbers were not described further.
Weapons stolen
Eleven firearms, including rifles, shotguns and handguns, were stolen Friday from a home in the 700 block of Corbett Hill Road near Mount Olive, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said. The weapons had a combined value of $6,500.
The thief had damaged a door to get inside and also stole a safe with $175 in collector coins and $200 in $2 bills, deputies said. The resident, Nancy D. Henderson, reported the value of the safe at $50 and estimated damage at $500.
Stolen truck leads
to drug charges
A 22-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Sunday and charged with a felony drug offense and numerous other violations during a Goldsboro police investigation of a stolen truck.
Justin Ray Parrish of Massey Road was charged with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Parrish also was charged with unauthorized use of a 1997 pickup that had been reported stolen by Christopher Pender; possession of a concealed weapon; injury to personal property, an officer's watch; an opened container violation; suspicion of driving while impaired; failure to heed blue lights or siren, and two counts of resisting arrest.
Pender told police that Parrish had asked for his truck keys early Saturday so that he could get a cigarette. Instead, Pender said, Parrish drove away from a night club parking lot on North William Street.
Parrish was arrested at about 3 p.m. by Officer C.M. Burack on North William Street near Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $8,000 secured bond.
Drug charges
A 46-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested before dawn today and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug offenses.
Betty Lowe Hardy of Melody Lane was charged by Goldsboro police with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed handgun. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
Ten hurt in wrecks
Ten people were injured and damages were estimated at $51,550 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 at 12:10 p.m. Saturday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. Paula Lee Locklear, 22, of Casey Mill Road, Dudley, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Her passengers, Ethan Locklear, 11 months, of Casey Mill Road, and Erica McDonald, 18, and Marcaela Fonseco, 7 months, both of Everittsville Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Locklear was charged with a yield violation. The eastbound car that Ms. Locklear was driving collided with a southbound pickup operated by Jimmy Harold Flowers, 59, of Bradshaw Crow Road, Faison.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $5,050 in a three-vehicle crash at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at N.C. 111 and Dollard Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Mellisa Mae Selby, 24, and her passenger, Aliyah Selby, 19 months, both of Genoa Road, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Jacqualine M. Handsome, 52, of Ann Street, was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Ms. Handsome had started a left turn and the car she was driving collided with Ms. Selby's oncoming, northbound pickup and a stopped westbound auto driven by Leshina J. Graham, 30, of Sutton Drive, LaGrange.
*A pickup was demolished and the driver was charged with driving while impaired at 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Waller Road near Cashwell Hill Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Benjamin Allen McCullen, 23, of Marsh Kornegay Road, Faison, declined hospital treatment. The pickup ran off the right side, struck a power pole and a tree and overturned. Damages were set at $11,000.
*A pickup was demolished and two passengers were injured in a hit-and-run crash at 3:15 a.m. Saturday on N.C. 55 near N.C. 403, the Highway Patrol said. Usil Perez, 19, and Edilberto Perez, 17, both of Pacific Drive, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. The westbound truck ran off the road and overturned. The truck was registered to Kevin Wayne Crisco of Bolivia, N.C., and valued at $8,000.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 at 11:50 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 117 near Pate Road, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Rodney Dale Walston, 37, of Magnolia, was charged with reckless driving and hit and run. Troopers said Walston had started to pass a vehicle and collided with an oncoming sport utility vehicle that tried to avoid him. Neither driver, Walston nor Brenda L. Holloman, 45, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville, was injured.
*A driver was injured in a one-truck wreck at 10:50 a.m. Saturday on Perkins Road near Buck Swamp Road, the Highway Patrol said. Bobbie Jean Hope, 56, of East Taylor Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Hope was charged with driving while her license was revoked and exceeding a safe speed after the pickup ran off the right side, struck a mail box, jumped a driveway tile and hit a tree. Damages were put at $3,000.
*A driver was injured and his car was demolished in a wreck at 3 a.m. Friday on Wayne Memorial Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Charles Lindberg Ray Jr., 34, of Glenfield Road, Snow Hill, left Wayne Memorial Hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. Ray also was charged with exceeding a safe speed and no operator's license. The car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and a culvert, overturned several times and then struck trees and a power pole. Damages were set at $10,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A radar detector, a head-set radio, a car battery and a Bible were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a vehicle window and a sliding door were smashed in the 3300 block of Wayne Memorial Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Cleta W. Williams of Mount Olive, estimated the property's value at $350 and damage at $500.
*A green 1995 Ford Explorer was stolen between Friday and Saturday from the 800 block of Stanley Chapel Church Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, N.S. Dyson, put a $7,500 value on the vehicle.
*A homemade pig cooker was stolen between Thursday and Sunday from the 700 block of Big Daddy's Road, deputies said. The owner, Jimmie Dean Williams of Pikeville, said the cooker was worth $2,000. The resident, Paul Anthony Duncan, also reported the theft of six propane cylinders, valued at $35.
*A gold, four-door 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen between Friday and Sunday from the 100 block of Tipton Lane, deputies said. The owner and resident, Roland Cantu, said the vehicle was valued at $6,000.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Four flatbed trailers were stolen between Saturday and Sunday from Lowe's at 1202 N. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The thief had cut a cable that had secured the trailers, valued at $2,916.
*A black, four-door 1986 Lincoln Town Car was stolen between Sunday and dawn today from the owner's residence in the 400 block of Stronach Avenue, police said. Franklin R. Coley said his car was worth $1,800.
