Goldsboro mention
Restaurateur Wilberdean Shirley has been notified that his establishment, Wilber's Barbecue of Goldsboro, will be mentioned in the lead story of the Southern Living Favorites issue, which will go on sale by April 15.
The magazine's executive editor, Dianne Young, said the story will list the South's best foods, from fine dishes in elegant bistros to unique and inexpensive snacks. She did now say which category Wilber's was in.
Historic trolley tours
The downtown historic trolley tour is back by popular demand.
The narrated tour, which includes lunch at the Royal Tea Rooms, is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, from noon to 3 p.m. An English lunch will be served at noon.
At 1 p.m. the horse-drawn trolley will roll through downtown, while historian Charlie Gaylor takes riders into the past.
The cost is $30 per person. Call the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. at 735-4959 to reserve a seat.
YMCA draws 2,000
More than 2,000 came out April 3 for the 13th annual Healthy Kids Day celebration at the Goldsboro Family Y.
"Many kids are surprised when they learn that the Family YMCA has soccer, basketball, karate, summer camp, after-school and so many other activities," said Hal Warner, senior program director.
Disability Walk
Wayne County residents will once again walk to raise awareness for the disabled.
The 8th Annual Hal Plonk Disability Awareness Walk will be held May 12. The event is sponsored by the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
The five-block walk begins at 10 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 204 E. Chestnut St. Lineup is at 9:45. The Goldsboro Middle School marching band will play, and there will be booths and refreshments. All people and organizations interested in participating should call 736-7471 by May 5.
