Resident finds
thieves in home
A Dudley man returned home Tuesday and saw two men inside stealing his property, according to a Wayne County sheriff's report.
The robbers had picked up a handgun, a holster, a jar of change and a mailbox bank with change and damaged a safe by the time Oliver Ray Best Jr., 49, entered his home in the 4800 block of U.S. 117 Alternate South at about 11:20 a.m., deputies said.
The robbers ran into nearby woods, and Best called authorities.
Antonio McKee Spruill, 20, of Dollard Town Road, surrendered, deputies said. Daniel Ray Boseman, 20, of South Church Street, Mount Olive, was captured by deputies after a short chase, they said.
The stolen property was found in the men's car and was to be returned to Best, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said.
Spruill and Boseman were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen property. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.
Damage was estimated at $500 to the safe.
Bicyclist injured
A bicyclist was struck by a car at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday at South Herman and East Pine streets, police said. Eugene McClarin, 49, of Ivey Street was taken to Wayne Memorial, where he was treated and released.
The driver, James Madison Suggs of Hugh Street, was going south on Herman Street, and McClarin was turning right from Pine Street, police said. No charges were filed.
In other traffic collisions:
*Damages were estimated at $11,500 in a three-vehicle collision at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Central Heights Road and Sanborn Lane, police said. Joseph Doyle Perkins, 79, of Circle Drive, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other motorists were identified as John Harold Hood, 38, of Goldleaf Drive and Charita Michele Holmes, 25, of Mint Hill Drive, LaGrange.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 at 9:50 a.m. Monday on Stevens Mill Road near N.C. 581, police said. Annette Marie Faulhaber, 71, of Myrna Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said she had started a U-turn from a parking lane and her car collided with a westbound auto driven by Elizabeth Joy Hicks, 19, of Bellview Drive.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A thief damaged a chain-link fence, smashed a door glass and then bashed a wood desk in order to steal $500 from the Country Butcher Shop at 6316 U.S. 70 East.
*A woman's 12-speed bicycle was stolen Tuesday from a storage building in the 500 block of Potts Road. The resident, Wendy DeLeon, put a $600 value on the bike. A nail gun, a hedge trimmer and a saw also were stolen, but the thieves dropped the property, valued at $425, after being seen and then fled.
Firearms stolen
Goldsboro police are investigating the reports of two thefts of firearms.
*Six handguns were stolen from a home in the 600 block of Crawford Street. Jeffrey Saul Jr. said three 9-millimeter pistols, a .45 caliber pistol, a .22 caliber pistol and another handgun were taken from his bedroom. They were valued at $1,400.
*A .22 caliber pistol and six video games were stolen from an apartment in the 400 block of West Hooks River Road. The thief had pried open a storage room door, pulled back a sheet of plywood and went through the attic to a bedroom, police said. The resident, Sheila Bowden, estimated the property's value at $375.
Break-in
A 41-year-old man from Goldsboro was arrested Tuesday night by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony offenses -- breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Jerry Rouse, the owner of Trans-Rouse Unlimited at 110 E. Mulberry St., told police that he saw a man throw a brick through a window, grab a cell phone and run away. Rouse notified authorities. Police charged Michael Edwards.
Edwards, who did not disclose a home address, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
Larceny
A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by Wayne County sheriff's detectives and charged with larceny by an employee.
Richard Allen Smith of Massey Road, Dudley, was accused of stealing equipment on Friday from a contractor, said the detectives, Sgt. Tony Morris and Michael Reid. The property was recovered and returned to the owner. Smith was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
