Spring break
Students in Wayne County public schools begin Easter break next week.
Schools will have early dismissal on Thursday, and there will be no school on Friday. Classes will resume on Monday, April 19.
Park train begins
season run on Saturday
The miniature train in Herman Park, which has delighted young and old alike for nearly a half century, opens this weekend.
Train hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The train and a concession stand are operated by the Kiwanis Club of Goldsboro as a public service to the community. All profits are donated to various organizations in Goldsboro and Wayne County.
The train will run every weekend through September.
Bowles to visit
in Goldsboro Tuesday
U.S. Senate candidate Erskine Bowles will be in Goldsboro on Tuesday.
He will speak at the Goldsboro Rotary Club's meeting at 1 p.m. at the Goldsboro Country Club. The public is invited. Lunch is available for $5.
Bowles, a Democrat, is running for Sen. John Edwards' seat. He faces a challenge from Republican Richard Burr.
Business award nominations
Nominations are being accepted for the Wayne County Small Business of the Year awards.
There are three awards: Small Business of the Year, Appearance, and Special Recognition.
To be eligible companies must have fewer than 100 employees. Nomination forms are available at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and in local banks.
The awards are sponsored by the Small Business Center at Wayne Community College and the Chamber of Commerce.
