Because auto theft is a big business and thieves can steal a car in few minutes, Goldsboro police are offering these tips to reduce the chance of a vehicle larceny:
Always lock the vehicle. Park in well-lighted, populated areas that are easily observed by passersby. Never leave the keys in the vehicle or leave it unattended with the engine running. Engrave audio and phone equipment with your driver's license or state identification number. Lock valuables in the trunk or away from plain view.
Cpl. Teresa Cox, a crime prevention officer, says that if the vehicle is stolen, the owner should report the theft as soon as possible and provide a thorough description, including the license and serial numbers, to law enforcement.
