Two teams from Spring Creek Elementary School won honors at the Odyssey of the Mind competition recently in Jacksonville
Karen Barkhurst, advisor, said she had a first place team and a third place team in the coastal region event, covering 32 counties. This makes 12 trophies the school has received for Odyssey of the Mind in the last seven years.
The first place team will next compete in the state finals at Appalachian State University on April 17.
Both teams were made up of fourth and fifth graders. They were required to solve a problem and earned points in such areas as creativity, quality of the performance, and artistic quality.
The first place team won in the category of "Fantastic Art Cast." Team members were Kent Jernigan, Mallory Fredrick, Miranda Hill, Jeff Cebe, Garrett Lewis, and Starling Krentz.
The third place team won in the category of "Featured Creature," making the audience aware of a mythological creature. Members performing in "The Legend of Bugville" included Spencer Gray, Molly Michaels, Kaylar Fullington, Colleen Finlay, Johnny Broadway, and Whitney Fredrick.
