Many of our World War II veterans stay in touch with fellows who served in their units. Some hold reunions and have their own publications so they can keep up with each other.
E.R. "Red" Warren Jr., flew B-17 Flying Fortresses in Europe during "the big war." He recently shared with me a little article that appeared in a bomb group publication, "Bombs Away."
It told of an Army Ranger who was serving in Afghanistan getting a "Dear John" from his girlfriend. She related that in his absence she had been dating two other guys and asked that he return her picture.
The soldier collected all the unwanted pictures his buddies had of pretty girls. He bundled about 25 of them and sent them to his ex-girlfriend with this note: "I'm sorry I can't remember which one you are. Please take the one belonging to you and return the rest."
