Cause of fatal fire
is undetermined
The cause of a mobile home fire in which a 12-year-old girl died in northeastern Wayne County could not be determined, authorities said today.
The victim, Angleque Blair Long, died early Feb. 28 in her home at 107 Kimberly Lane.
"The exact cause could not be determined because of the extensive damage," Sheriff's Capt. George Raecher said.
He said the fire was not caused by either foul play or criminal activity.
Special Agent John Rea of the State Bureau of Investigation was assisted by Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Dean Roscoe and Assistant Emergency Services Coordinator Mel Powers in the investigation.
Couple robbed
A teen-aged couple was robbed of $90 Sunday night by a knife-wielding man on Dallas Drive, a Wayne County sheriff's report said.
Joshua Jerome Carter, 19, of Fremont told deputies that they were giving a ride home to the suspect at about 6:45 p.m. When they got to Dallas Drive, the suspect pulled a knife and demanded the couple's money. He grabbed $80 from Carter and $10 from Nichole Milliken, 17, of Goldsboro and fled, deputies said.
The suspect was described as being about 20 years old, 5-feet-6 and 150 pounds with a medium build and blond hair in a ponytail.
Shooting
A man getting dressed Sunday for church accidentally shot himself while taking items from his pants pocket, a Goldsboro police report said. One item was a handgun, police said.
Ray Williams Jr., 49, of East Ash Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was listed today in stable condition in the intensive care unit, a spokeswoman said.
Cash, safe stolen
A floor safe with $8,000 and other property were stolen before dawn today from a home in the 3000 block of Thoroughfare Road, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The resident, George Hucks, also reported the theft of a gold ceremonial sword, jewelry, a phone and a brief case with personal papers. The property, in addition to the cash, was valued at $2,150. No sign of forced entry was reported.
Crime of the Week
A common-law robbery has been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crime of the Week."
A woman told police that a man grabbed her purse, jerked it from her shoulder and fled from a driveway in the 1300 block of Clingman Street in Goldsboro.
Anyone with information on this robbery or any other crime in Wayne County, including probation violations and fish and wildlife law violations, was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Gunshots hit homes
Two homes were damaged by gunfire over the weekend, and the residents' descriptions of the shooters matched, Goldsboro police said. No one was injured.
The first shooting occurred at 12:15 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 900 block of South Slocumb Street. A door sustained about $75 in damage at the Emma Pope home.
Then a window was shattered 10 minutes later in the 600 block of Wayne Avenue. Damage was estimated at $600 at the Gary Artis home.
Both residents described the suspects as three black men in a tan Cadillac.
Woman robbed
A Goldsboro woman was robbed Friday of $480 as she walked in the 200 block of North James Street, Goldsboro police said.
Yaminika Nicole Boyette, 21, told officers that a black man grabbed her purse and fled. The purse, valued at $10, also contained a wallet and personal papers.
The robber was described as black, 5-feet-11 and 180 pounds with a medium build, black hair in corn rows and brown eyes. He wore black jeans and a blue shirt.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Two car amplifiers were stolen between Saturday and dawn today after a window was smashed at Boulevard Pawn Shop at 2419 E. Ash St., Goldsboro police said. The amplifiers were valued at $708, and damage was put at $150.
*About $25 and a checkbook were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a window was broken at Luke's Auto Electric shop at 664 N.C. 581 North, sheriff's deputies said. The checkbook was valued at $20. Damage was set at $50.
*A compact disc player, a speaker and an amplifier were stolen between Thursday and Friday after a car window was shattered in the 500 block of Hillcrest Drive, police said. The owner, Katina James of Goldsboro, put an $800 value on the property. No damage estimate was listed.
*A compact disc player and a red couch cover were stolen between Thursday and Friday after a car window was damaged in the 2600 block of North Park Drive, police said. The owner, April Michelle Burdeski of Princeton, estimated the property's value at $260 and damage at $150.
Check charges
Three people have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with writing and-or passing forged checks.
*Walter Scott Bunn, 24, of Runnel Place, Dudley, was charged by sheriff's deputies with felony forgery and felony uttering. He also was picked up on a domestic violence protective order violation. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
*Mary Patricia Moody, 33, of Central Heights Road was charged by Goldsboro police with two counts each of felony forgery and felony uttering. She was jailed in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond.
*Angela McNaught Robinson, 36, of Third Street was charged by police with felony uttering. She was jailed in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
