Wanted man captured
A 24-year-old Goldsboro man, wanted by federal authorities on charges of armed drug trafficking, was arrested Wednesday by Wayne County sheriff's deputies.
Diamon Rashaun Teachey, 24, of Vine Street was arrested by the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team on George Street in Goldsboro. He was turned over to federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officers for processing.
Teachey also was wanted by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad in connection with a shooting during a raid on Feb. 20, 2001. He was accused of shooting at four officers who had gone to a home on Workman Street.
Teachey had been charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of discharge of a weapon in occupied property. He had been released from custody on a secured bond in the case.
Man wanted
A 38-year-old Goldsboro man is wanted by Goldsboro police on felony charges of first-degree burglary and common-law robbery.
Warrick
Edgar "Eddie" Warrick of Clingman Street was accused of barging into a home on Royall Avenue before dawn Tuesday and stealing $80 and a cell phone, valued at $180, from the resident, James Earl Bass. Warrick was described as being white, 5-feet-6 and 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on Warrick's location was asked to call Investigator Mike Horstmann at 580-4213 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for a cash reward.
Woman robbed
A woman parking her car in the 100 block of North Lionel Street was robbed Wednesday night of her purse that contained $2, a Goldsboro police report said.
Latoya Butler, 20, of Goldsboro told officers that as she was parking her car at about 7:45 p.m., a man reached through the window, grabbed the purse and fled in a waiting car.
The robber was described as white, about 35 years old, 6-feet-2 and 165 pounds with a slim build. He wore a gray hat, gray short and blue jeans.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $2,050 worth of motorcycle parts were stolen from a rental storage locker at Downes Mini-Storage at 1808 U.S. 117 Bypass, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had cut the lock from the unit. The property was owned by Thomas Earl Hardy of Dudley.
*An entertainment center, a television, a DVD-VCR player and video-game equipment were stolen from a home in the 200 block of Brookshire Drive, Goldsboro police said. The resident, K.R. Kirr, put a $2,087 value on the property.
*A video cassette recorder was stolen after a door was damaged at a home in the 1000 block of Dollard Town Road, deputies said. The VCR was valued at $200, and damage at Starsha T. Dixon's home was set at $30.
*A 1997 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from behind the owner's barn in the 300 block of Windsor Drive, deputies said. The resident, Richard Brandon Valley, put a $2,500 value on the cycle.
Fugitive caught
A Wayne County man wanted on nine felony charges in Albemarle County, Va., was arrested today by sheriff's deputies during a traffic stop.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office was notified that Johnny Lee Deans of N.C. 111 South might be in the county. Deans, who also has lived in Wilmington, was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond until an extradition hearing.
Sgt. Carter Hicks and Deputies Kenneth Grice, Darren Craig and Chuck Schaeffer arrested Deans.
Collision
A westbound sport utility vehicle skidded out of control on snow-covered N.C. 55 near Suttontown Road at about 10:35 a.m. Monday and collided with an oncoming, eastbound car, the Highway Patrol said.
The drivers -- Laura Beth Sutton, 33, of Crocus Lane, LaGrange, and Emma Farmer Weeks, 61, of West James Street, Mount Olive -- were not charged or injured, but damages were estimated at $5,100.
Doctor sued
A Goldsboro physician is being sued for medical negligence by a Wayne County man for more than $10,000 in damages, according to a lawsuit filed in the Wayne County Clerk of Courts Office.
David M. Barnes has brought the lawsuit against Dr. V.C. Motoparthy, Goldsboro Endoscopy Center Inc. and Digestive Disease Center.
Barnes contends that Motoparthy did not perform a surgical procedure properly in March, 2003, to relieve an upper abdominal problem. When his condition worsened, Barnes went back to Motoparthy, who prescribed medicine. But his condition did not improve, and Barnes went to Wayne Memorial Hospital. More medicine did not help his condition. A day later, Barnes contends that he returned to the hospital emergency room and a doctor ordered more tests. Surgery was performed to relieve the pain in his esophagus.
Barnes alleges that he now has shortness of breath and a hoarse voice. He says he has incurred substantial medical bills and suffered diminished earning capacity.
Barnes is represented by lawyer William H. Holdford of Wilson. Dr. Motoparthy's lawyer, Robert Walker of Goldsboro, has not filed an answer to the suit yet.
Mother responds
Mary Sloan -- the mother of Dwight Sloan, who was indicted this week on a charge of murder -- says her son did not know the victim, Jamaal Rashaud Pearsall. Ms. Sloan's comment refutes the contention of police that the two men had had an ongoing dispute that had escalated to the shooting.
