Body found
The body of a 61-year-old man was found Monday in a field near the 1600 block of Courtyard Circle, a Goldsboro police report said.
The man was identified as Willie West Weatherspoon of 2202 Courtyard Circle. He was found at about 5:05 p.m. by neighborhood children. The cause of death has not been determined.
Police said today that they had many unanswered questions about the death.
Man wanted
Jose Rivera
A 27-year-old man is wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on one charge of armed robbery and two charges of second-degree kidnapping.
Jose Rivera, who may be living in Johnston County, was charged with taking part in the Feb. 12 holdup of Selena's Bakery and Mexican Store at 6078 U.S. 70 E. Rivera and two other men displayed handguns and held up the store, the report said.
Rivera also uses the name Jose Marlon Zelaya. He was described as Hispanic, 5-feet-9 and 150 pounds. He should be considered armed and dangerous, officers said.
Anyone with information on Rivera's location was asked to call Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris at 731-1480 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for a cash reward.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating business and residential break-ins in which more than $10,200 worth of property was stolen between Sunday and Monday.
An estimated $7,520 worth of tools was stolen after locks were cut from storage bins at a construction site at Claridge Nursery Road and N.C. 581 North, deputies said. The property was owned by D.W. Lyle Corp. of McKinney, Va.
The property included a $2,500 Honda generator, an $1,800 saw and a $900 nail gun. Three grinders, two water pumps, another saw and two wrenches also were reported stolen.
An estimated $2,685 worth of property was stolen after a door lock was cut on a mobile home in the 100 block of Ginn Drive, deputies said.
The owner of the stolen property, Shannon Lee Burlingame, reported the theft of two rifles, ammunition, two speakers and tools, including saws, a sander and drills. The homeowner was identified as E.L. Blount of Pikeville.
Phone, cash taken
Two men barged into a home before dawn today, knocked down the resident and stole a cell phone and $80, according to Goldsboro police reports.
The resident, James Earl Bass, told police that the men knocked on his door at about 1 a.m. and once inside, they took the cash from Bass' wallet and the phone, valued at $150.
One robber was described as being white, 5-feet-8 and 125 pounds with short brown hair, a thin build and a beard. He wore a blue jacket and blue jeans. The other robber was described as white, 6-feet-1 and 140 pounds with brown hair and a beard. He wore blue jeans and a blue and white coat.
Five hurt in wrecks
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $81,400 in 12 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A passenger was injured at 2:23 p.m. Monday at Corporate Drive and an entrance ramp to Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, Goldsboro police said. Odell Copeland, 23, of Baker Street, Eureka, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. His driver, Kayla Lashawn Howard, 17, of Hood Swamp Road, was charged with a yield violation and not having an operator's license. Shelby Lyn Rondena, 30, of Leonardtown, Md., was the other driver. Damages were put at $3,900.
*A passenger was injured at 8:05 a.m. at Edgerton Street and North Jefferson Avenue, police said. Shamella Weeks, 16, of Pineview Avenue was released after emergency-room treatment. She was riding with Barbara W. McKinnie, 38, of Pineview Avenue. Geraldine Bryant, 51, of South Alabama Avenue was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were set at $2,300.
*Damages were estimated at $10,000 at 5:26 p.m. Monday on North William Street near 11th Street, police said. Alicia Guadalupe Zapata Vasquez, 25, of North William Street, was charged with yield and child restraint violations. The other driver was Michael Lynn Grady, 34, of Quail Cross Road.
*The driver for Ameritrans LLC of Gulf, N.C., was charged with exceeding a safe speed at 11:20 p.m. Sunday after the tractor-trailer ran off the left side of U.S. 13 near Bentonville Road and struck a ditch, the Highway Patrol said. Martin Allen Rose, 39, of Woodland Church Road, Dudley, was not injured. The rig sustained about $10,000 in damages.
*Damage was estimated at $6,000 at 1:30 p.m. Sunday on snow-covered N.C. 581 near Hardy Talton Road, the Highway Patrol said. Leslie Anne Keene, 22, of Garrick Lane, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the SUV ran off the right side, struck a culvert and a tree.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and the sport utility vehicle he was driving was demolished in a wreck at 9:46 p.m. Friday on Outlaw Road near Ruskin Road, the Highway Patrol said. Samuel DeJesus Constanza, 21, of North Berkeley Boulevard was released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The driver was fleeing from authorities at speeds of up to 100 mph, troopers said, and the SUV ran off the road, overturned several times and ejected the driver. The SUV, registered to Deacon Jones Chevrolet of Kenly, was valued at $17,000.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 at 10 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 13 near Herring Road, the Highway Patrol said. No charges were filed against the driver, Frankye Denning Graham, 46, of U.S. 13 South. The sport utility vehicle skidded out of control on the snow-covered road and struck a ditch, troopers said.
*A driver escaped injury at 10:30 a.m. Thursday when her sport utility vehicle skidded off the left side of a snow-covered Mills Road near U.S. 13 and overturned, the Highway Patrol said. Amanda Nicole Parrish, 27, of Halston Place, Pikeville, was not charged. But her SUV sustained about $6,000 in damages.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-car collision at 10:12 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 117 near Mount Carmel Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Virginia L. Lampley, 66, of U.S. 117 North, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other driver was Sadie D. Minshew, 73, of Wilson.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Beston Road and Jarrett Court, the Highway Patrol said. Sherrie Lane Howard, 40, of Ryan Way was released after emergency-room treatment. Donna Ann Pena, 44, of Emmitte Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were set at $2,700.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 at noon Thursday on snow-covered U.S. 117 near Arrington Bridge Road, the Highway Patrol said. Mattie Pearl Whitfield, 66, of East Nelson Street, Mount Olive, was charged with following too closely. The other driver was identified as Hettie Montina Worrells, 30, of Daffodil Drive, Dudley.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 at 3:10 p.m. Thursday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jeremiah David Helsel, 21, of Old Harvey Sutton Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with improper passing and failure to reduce speed. Troopers said Helsel was passing several vehicles in a no-passing zone and met an oncoming pickup. The other driver, Lawrence Keith Bonner, 38, of Squire Avenue, had stopped but his pickup was struck by Helsel's car.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A navy blue Suzuki moped was stolen Monday from the 1000 block of Lincoln Drive. The owner, Reginald Stevens, said it was worth $2,000.
*About $100 was stolen from a desk at CGS Bonded Warehouse at 100 E. Holly St.
*A gray, four-door 1997 Buick Park Avenue was stolen Saturday from the 1600 block of Royall Avenue. The keys had been left inside the unlocked car, valued at $8,000, according to the owner, Stephen Brannon of Walnut Creek.
*A green, four-door 1996 Plymouth Neon was stolen from the owner's home in the 700 block of South Andrews Avenue. The owner, Patricia L. Howse, put a $4,000 value on the car.
*A red Honda scooter was stolen from the 1100 block of Wayne Memorial Drive. The scooter, owned by Carlton Smith of Goldsboro, was valued at $1,000.
Missing
A woman and two teen-agers have been reported missing to Goldsboro police.
*Anglia Hope Herrera, 38, of 138 Cleveland Drive, Mount Olive, was described as white, 5-feet-9 and 175 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. She was seen last at 3:30 p.m. Monday. No clothing description was available. She was staying at the Lighthouse in Goldsboro.
*Deonte Marquel Artis, 17, of 512 Quail Drive, was described as black, 5-feet-7 and 135 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When he was seen last at 6 p.m. Saturday, he was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, boots and a green coat.
*Dominique Danyelle Howell, 13, of 1100 N. Jefferson Ave., Apartment 47, was described as black, 5-feet-2 and 100 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When she was seen last at 7 p.m. Saturday, she was wearing a white shirt, blue pants, white shoes and a black and orange coat.
