An estimated $1,760 worth of damages was inflicted between Monday and Tuesday to furniture and other items in a home in the 4900 block of U.S. 117 Alternate near Dudley, a Wayne County sheriff's report said.
The resident, Senta R. Coleman, reported that a couch and love seat combination, another love seat, a hutch, a kitchen table, a lamp, a bathtub faucet, a television stand and a lamp were damaged along with carpet and walls.
An oriental rug, a microwave oven and a picture and frame also were stolen, the report said. The stolen property was valued at more than $230. The suspect may have damaged a door to get inside, the report said.
Sheriff's deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A stereo and compact disc player combination was stolen Tuesday after a car window was smashed and the dashboard damaged at Down East Furniture at 6568 U.S. 70 East, deputies said. The car owner, Michael David Hunter of Goldsboro, put a $249 value on his missing property and set damage at $300.
*A red, four-door 1998 Chevy Cavalier was stolen between Monday and Tuesday from the 300 block of Long's Plant Farm Road, deputies said. The owner, Grace J. Hall of LaGrange, said the car, valued at $6,000, had been left for service work.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these matters:
*A speaker and an amplifier were stolen Tuesday after a car window was smashed at Security Storage at 106 U.S. 117 Bypass, police said. The car owner, Allen Stevens of Goldsboro, estimated his property's value at $600 and damage at $50.
*Nine cases of food were stolen Tuesday from a secured locker at Kentucky Fried Chicken at 700 E. Ash St., police said. The food was valued at about $200.
Fraud case
A 41-year-old man from LaGrange was charged Tuesday night with stealing two pillow cases from a department store and then trying to take them back -- for a refund.
Danny Ray Price of South Charles Street was arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny.
Price took the pillow cases at about 6:20 p.m. from Wal-Mart and then 10 minutes later, he returned and asked for a refund of the $9.59 price, police said. When store personnel determined that the pillow cases had been stolen, security was summoned, and Price was detained and arrested. Price was taken before a magistrate, who set his bond at $1,000.
