School schedule change
Make-up days and a change in high school graduations have been announced for students in Wayne County public schools.
Three days were missed due to ice on Jan. 26, 27 and 28. The days chosen by the school system as make-up days are May 21, 24, and 25.
Graduations have been moved from May 21 to May 28 with the exception of Southern Wayne High School, which will graduate on Saturday, May 29.
Farm and highway safety
The Wayne County Young Farmers Organization along with the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service and the N.C. Highway Patrol is sponsoring "Seen and Safe," an educational program on farm equipment safety on the highway.
It will be on March 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wayne Center in Goldsboro.
There will be a dinner, educational exhibits and safety presentations. Up to 125 participants will receive a farm equipment safety kit valued at $200 for registering by Feb. 25 with the extension service. For more information, contact 731-1521.
Advice for entrepreneurs
The Business and Industry Center of Wayne Community College will offer the free course "Grow Your Business with a Loan and Expert Advice."
The course will be held for 10 weeks on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. on campus. Another 10-week session set for Mondays will start April 26. Call 735-5151, extension 334, to register for either course.
Promising entrepreneurs who complete the program may qualify for loans of up to $25,000 from the N.C. Microenterprise Loan Program to start small businesses and to expand existing ones.
Volunteers needed
The 8th Judicial District's Guardian ad Litem program needs volunteers to advocate in court for abused and neglected children.
Training is offered on a flexible schedule for those interested in volunteering five or more hours a month. More information is available at 731-5659 in Wayne County and 1-252-523-5217 in Lenoir and Greene counties.
