The one-liners

Dr. William Friday, president emeritus of the University of North Carolina, loves a one-liner. And when he interviewed Carl Kasell at Walnut Creek Country Club for his "North Carolina People" public television series, Kasell accommodated him in grand fashion.
Kasell, Goldsboro native and one of National Public Radio's best known figures, told Friday that to prepare for his early morning broadcast, he got up at 1:05 a.m.
Friday wondered why he arose at 1:05 rather than at one o'clock.
Quicker than Matt Dillon could draw his .44, Carl responded: "I like to sleep late."
It was a delightful program. For those not there for the recording, it will be shown on public television Feb. 20 at 9 p.m. and on the 22nd at 5:30 p.m.
