Rotary Scholarship

FREMONT -- The Fremont Rotary Club, in conjunction with other Rotary clubs in northeastern North Carolina, is offering the opportunity to local teachers and other professionals or public servants who work with the Hispanic population to apply for a three-month scholarship to study abroad in an intensive foreign language school.
Professionals who work with people who speak a language other than Spanish will be considered, but Spanish is the preferred language.
The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program is the largest privately funded scholarship in the world. The scholarships are offered through the Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary International.
The scholarship will allow applicants to improve their knowledge of a foreign language at any one of 50 language schools around the world.
If you are a teacher or other professional with a college degree and have one year or the equivalent of foreign language course work, and need to speak a foreign language, you are eligible. If you are already fluent in the language, you will not qualify.
Applicants will be interviewed in September and must have the equivalent of one year of the language at that time.
All scholarships pay for tuition, transportation, books, room and board, and some spending money. You can possibly live with a local family.
Cultural scholarships will begin in the summer of 2005. Scholarship winners can choose the three months they wish to study abroad.
The application deadline is July 30, 2004.
Family members of Rotarians are ineligible for the scholarship.
