An educational consultant from LaGrange has been hired by the Wayne County public schools to coordinate federal programs.
Dr. Willette C. Wooten currently works as a consultant for the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, a position she has held since 1997. From 1997 until 1997, she was director of federal and English as a second language programs for Wilson County schools.
Dr. Wooten succeeds Juanita King, the school system's federal programs director since 1985. Mrs. King recently announced her retirement after working in education for 33 years, 27 of those with Wayne County public schools.
"We're pleased that Dr. Wooten has taken the position of director of federal programs," said Dr. Steven Taylor, superintendent of schools.
Taylor added that Mrs. King did an excellent job in the area of federal programs, paving the way for continued success in the job.
Dr. Wooten earned her doctorate degree in education from N.C. State University. She holds a master's degree from N.C. Agricultural and Technical State University and a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Fayetteville State University.
