Weather deja vu?
The National Weather Service forecast for this weekend is suspiciously similar to the same forecasts issued last week.
On Friday, Jan. 23, a chance of freezing rain and sleet was predicted for Sunday night into Monday and mostly north and west of Interstate 95. But predictions became more dire as the weekend progressed.
Once again, the chance of sleet or freezing rain is in the forecast for this Sunday night and Monday morning, but the weather service is advising people to monitor weather bulletins and advisories, because the timing and amount of precipitation is hard to predict.
Fund-raiser set
Tickets have gone on sale for a fund-raiser to offset medical expenses for a woman hospitalized after having her lungs transplanted.
A benefit meal for the Vickie Bartlett Lung Transplant Fund is planned for Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Goldsboro Friends Meeting. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and from 4 until 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each, eat-in or takeout.

Kasell reception
The Wayne County Museum will hold a reception honoring Carl Kasell on Feb. 7 from 2-3:30 p.m.
Kasell the official judge and scorekeeper for NPR's weekly news quiz show, "Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me!" He also provides newscasts on NPR's daily newsmagazine "Morning Edition."
A Goldsboro native, Kasell was a morning announcer and newscaster at WGBR radio station. He majored in English at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He has been an NPR staff member since 1975.
In 1996, Kasell was honored with the Leo C. Lee Friend of Public Radio News Award for lasting commitment to public radio journalism. He also received the Public Radio Regional Organization Award in 1991.

Faro VFD grant
The Faro Volunteer Fire Department will receive a $7,700 grant from the state Department of Insurance for equipment and supplies.
Bill Bradbury, a special assistant for regional affairs with the Insurance Department, will present the check Monday to Fire Chief Jay Evans.
