Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Goldsboro Milling Co. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
Neuse replica
Seven Springs is preparing to make a replica of its famous Civil War ironclad.
Danny Carter, a contractor and a member of the Seven Springs town board, is heading up the effort to build a replica of the Confederate States Ship Neuse, first built in the village when it was called Whitehall.
Volunteers are welcome and needed at the ship replica building site at the Seven Springs Community Park.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the park, and volunteers will begin the re-creation of the CSS Neuse.
The main crew will be the FHA members from Spring Creek High School. Others are welcome. No experience or tools are necessary. Carter will provide whatever is needed.

Morehead finalist
A Wayne Country Day School senior is the county's only finalist for the 2004 Morehead award to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Carolyn Melinda Ziemer, daughter of Penny and Carey Ziemer of Goldsboro, is among the 60 North Carolina seniors on the list of finalists.
The Morehead Award Central Selection Committee will interview the finalists in Chapel Hill on March 1 and 2 and announce winners March 5.
The John Motley Morehead Foundation trustees will offer awards to about 40 students chosen from the in-state finalists and about 50 finalists from other states and Great Britain.
The award is valued at $72,000 for each North Carolina student and $125,000 for each out-of-state student.
Wayne Chamber meeting canceled
The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce has canceled its annual meeting that was scheduled for today at noon at Walnut Creek Country Club.
The event has not been rescheduled yet, but it should be held within the next few weeks. The meeting is to recognize the chamber's outstanding members and turn over the gavel to its new chairman.
