Thieves take cash, jewelry from 5 homes
About $11,007 worth of property, including jewelry and entertainment equipment, and $5,135 in cash were stolen from five homes, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office reports.
*A safe with $4,500 and jewelry, valued at $2,125, were stolen Tuesday from a home in the 4300 block of Indian Springs Road, deputies said. The resident, Eston Edwards Jr., also reported the theft of video games valued at $300. The jewelry included two diamond nugget rings, a gold nugget watch and a gold nugget bracelet. The safe was valued at $250. The thief inflicted an estimated $150 in damages to a door to get inside, deputies said.
*About $3,070 worth of jewelry was stolen Tuesday after a window was smashed in a home in the 300 block of Lee's Country Club Road near Mount Olive, deputies said. The resident, L.K. DuBose, said a necklace, two diamond rings and four other rings were stolen. Damage was put at $200.
*Video-game equipment, a DVD player, 20 DVD movies, a camera, jewelry and $335 in change were stolen Tuesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Pearl Street near Dudley, deputies said. The resident, Andromache Greenfield, estimated the value of the property at $1,972, in addition to the money, and set damage at $400.
*Jewelry, video-game equipment, a drill and $300 were stolen Tuesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Beyer Street, deputies said. One resident, Anitra Hurley, reported the theft of jewelry, vide-game equipment and the drill, valued at $890, and the cash. The other resident, Donna Holmes, said she lost four rings, valued at $900. Damage was put at $50.
*A utility trailer was stolen between Monday and Tuesday from the 100 block of Clayton Road, deputies said. The trailer, valued at $1,500, is owned by James Davis of Goldsboro and was being used by the resident, P.D. Sasser.
Pedestrian injured
A pedestrian was struck by a car at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday on South Leslie Street near East Pine Street, Goldsboro police said.
Bonita Bryant, 38, of Ryan Boulevard was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was listed today in stable condition, a spokeswoman said.
The driver, Virginia Brown Coley, 69, of Alvin Street was not charged, but her car sustained about $1,300 in damages.
In other collisions:
*Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:03 p.m. Tuesday on N.C. 111 South near U.S. 70 East, police said. One driver, Lola Lee Steiner, 30, of Kenly Road, was charged with an improper lane change. The other southbound motorist was identified as Javier Alvarado, 35, of Hines Drive.
*Damages were estimated at $4,700 in a three-vehicle crash at 9:25 a.m. Monday at U.S. 117 and U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Romeo Valencia Lopez, 21, of U.S. 13 South, was charged with not having an operator's license. Troopers said the eastbound car Lopez was driving collided with a southbound auto driven by Amy Sweeney, 33, of Dobbersville Road, Mount Olive. Lopez's auto then ricocheted into a stopped northbound minivan operated by John Brooks Jarnagin, 19, of Derek Drive.
Assault
A Goldsboro woman was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury.
Mercy Freeman, 41, of Hugh Street was accused of assaulting her boyfriend, Clifton Bryant, on Sunday, Investigator M.K. Horstmann said. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Stolen gun
A 37-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm.
Herbert Ainsworth Henderson of N.C. 222 East, Fremont, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $8,000 secured bond.
Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said he recovered a handgun from Henderson on Nov. 26. Farfour discovered that the weapon, valued at $450, had been stolen from a Wayne County home in October.
Cocaine charge
A 22-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drugs and weapons charges.
Rudolph D. Harris of Woodrow Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver 1.2 grams of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor possession of a concealed firearm. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond.
Woman found
The body of an 88-year-old woman, who was reported missing Monday, was found Tuesday in a field about 60 yards from her home in eastern Wayne County, a Sheriff's Office report said.
Adell Wade Garris of 176 Conover Lane, LaGrange, was found by a relative who was picking her up to go to court on a family matter. Her death was attributed to natural causes, officials said.
