Newest Eagles: Young men should be proud

Despite what some people think, you don't get the title of "Eagle Scout" because you have been around the longest.

To receive it, you have to have earned it -- completing the requirements and a community project.

So, the members of the 2011 Class of Eagle Scouts have reason to be very proud. They earned their wings.

Boy Scouts offers young men of all backgrounds the chance to take their first few steps into leadership, responsibility and achievement. There are many reasons that the lessons they learn stay with them for decades after their days with camping and badges are over -- they are timeless.

That is especially true for the Eagle Scouts.

It is a sign that they are headed for great things and that they understand that anything worth having is worth working for.

They have learned the value of achieving something -- and that will serve them well as they make their way into the world.

Congratulations to all of them -- and to their parents.
